![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's not unreasonable that Fred & Daphne are rich after all their escapades. So his personality could be the result of spending a lot of time with Uncle Shaggy. (Yes, I know that's an homage to Stan Lee not relevant to the theory.) The name Fred plus the red haired mother is probably what sparked it.įred is obsessed with monsters, which is completely reasonable from a child of members of Mystery, Inc.įred's father is established as being away almost all the time. This thought popped in my head upon seeing the family portrait in Fred's mansion. So, if there's something in there that would invalidate this idea - oh well. Also, while I watched the Scooby-Doo cartoons like everybody else, I'm not familiar with the intricate details of that universe. Obviously, this is for the film version I've never read the comics. Or my preferred choice, option two: Fred knows Shaggy is not fit to drive (because just look at him) and is always quick to insist on driving so that Shaggy doesn't, because Shaggy would either get pulled over or get them all killed. Option one: Shaggy lost his license, most likely for driving under the influence of drugs (because just look at him), so Fred took the role of driver. Looking at the gang, it's pretty clear if that van should belong to anyone it should be Shaggy, the hippy of the group.īut if the van belonged to Shaggy, why would Fred be so insistent on driving it? I posit two possible explanations for this. The Mystery Machine is the most hippy vehicle they could possibly have, Fred on the other hand is basically a straight-laced fancy-boy caricature. However, take a look at that van, and take a look at Fred. But as is pretty often made clear in the shows, Fred is often the one driving it, many assuming he is the owner, and I believe he has referred to it as ‘his van’ on occasion. So the Mystery Machine, for the uninitiated, is the van that the Scooby-Doo crew, or Mystery Inc, are always driving around in. ![]()
